"Surprise package" should be understood ironically. This is simply a daily changing page presenting featured pictures from the collection. From what I read, their military leader, out of military nostalgia, staged a static defence tactic when the Germans launched a major attack, so they got slaughtered instead of fading away and take advantage of guerilla tactics.
